1. Test items

Physical performance test:

Transparency is a significant feature of acrylic. Its light transmittance must be accurately measured during testing. The light transmittance of high-quality acrylic can reach more than 92% to ensure visual clarity. If it is used in optical instruments, display racks and other scenes, poor light transmittance will seriously affect the effect.

Strength tests include tensile strength, bending strength, etc. Tensile strength reflects the ability of acrylic to withstand longitudinal tension, and bending strength is related to its toughness when bending. Building decorative panels and outdoor billboards made of acrylic must have sufficient strength to withstand external forces such as wind and self-weight.

Dimensional stability testing is also critical. Observe the change in the size of acrylic under different temperature and humidity conditions to avoid deformation caused by environmental factors, which affects the assembly accuracy of precision parts or products.


Chemical performance testing:

Chemical corrosion resistance testing considers the tolerance of acrylic to common acids, alkalis, and organic solvents. For example, in application scenarios such as chemical laboratory equipment and cosmetic packaging, if the material is not corrosion-resistant, it is easy to be damaged and deteriorated, affecting the safety of use and life.

In addition, it is also necessary to detect whether it contains harmful chemical substances such as formaldehyde and benzene to ensure the health of the indoor air environment, especially for home decoration.


Appearance quality inspection: Check the surface flatness, whether there are bubbles, cracks, scratches and other defects. These defects not only affect the appearance, but also may become stress concentration points, reducing the overall strength of the product, which is particularly important for handicrafts and high-end decorative panels.


2. Testing method

Physical property measurement: Use a transmittance meter to accurately measure the transmittance; use a universal material testing machine to apply tension and pressure for strength testing; place the sample in a constant temperature and humidity chamber, and measure the size change after simulating environmental changes.


Chemical performance analysis: Soak the acrylic sample in different chemical reagents to observe the corrosion; use gas chromatographs and other equipment to detect harmful volatiles.


Appearance inspection: Carefully identify surface defects by visual inspection combined with tools such as magnifying glasses.


3. Testing standards

In China, there are standards such as GB/T 7134-2015 "Casting Industrial Organic Glass Sheets" to regulate raw materials, product performance, and test methods; internationally, ISO 7823 "Plastics - Polymethyl Methacrylate Sheets - Types, Sizes and Characteristics" provides unified specifications to ensure product quality consistency in international trade.
